When you take out a policy of insurance to protect you and/or your property in the event of a loss, you and your insurance carrier become first parties to that contract. When you suffer a loss, whether by water, wind, fire, national disaster/hurricane, theft, accident, etc., and your insurance company fails to
adequately compensate you for damages, it is a first-party breach of contract action. If you’ve been wrongfully denied or underpaid after a loss, TAG Us In to be your voice to represent and fight for you to recover benefits owed under your insurance policy.
-
It is a relatively simple and straightforward process to file a first-party insurance claim. Upon first knowledge of a loss, you have a duty under your policy to give your carrier prompt notice. Each carrier has their own way of reporting a claim, whether by phone or online portal, so it’s best to call your company to find out their specific requirements. Once you’ve contacted your
carrier to notify them of the loss, they will likely send out a claims adjuster to inspect your property and evaluate the damage. For most claims (absent special circumstances), your insurance company has 90 days to investigate your claim and make a coverage determination. For medical bills (PIP claim), your insurance company has 30 days to pay the bill before it
becomes overdue.
